Tourism development in Bakkie
This project will aim to increase livelihood and awareness of local community through construction of infrastructure works (proper drainage and strengthening the embankments) as well as capacity building (awareness and training for local community). The project site is located within a proected area, namely the Commewijne/Marowijne MUMA (Multiple Use Management Area).

Capacity - Building Component
One of the activities of this project is to organize the community members into a local CBO (Buurtcomite Bakkie), increase the project management skills of the board members and to officially register the CBO as a Stichting or other legal entity
Notable Community Participation
The communities from not only Bakkie, but also from Alliance will profit from this project, as they are small communities, but the tourism development will be a huge impact on their livelihoods. Locals will be trained to become tourist guides and advocate the unique biodiversity of this area, as well as raising awareness on how they can increase sustainable income generation.
