Soap Making Initiative for Village Goejaba
This project aims to support the community of Goebaja with a means of income generation, through sustainable use of the forest area. The project will suppor the establishment of a Jatropha plantation, together with a processing unit to extract the oils. With the jatropha oil, the community will be able to produce soap on a commercial basis.

Notable Community Participation
The community is the one who has already started planting Jatropha on a large scale (10 ha). The area used consisted of secondary vegetation, not virgin forest area. The community has been the one responsible for transportation of the Jatropha plants from Atjonie to Goejaba by boat. Also, the project will make use of local contractors for construction of the building, etc.
Capacity - Building Component
The community members involved will receive training in planting the Jatropha, as well as intercropping practices (planting rice and other vegetables along the Jatropha), entrepeneurship, extracting the oil using a presser, producing the soap using caustic soda, etc.
