Empowering Indigenous Women to Actively Participate in Sustainable Biodiversity Management in the Buffer Communities of the Rio Blanco National Park
Empowering Indigenous Women to Actively Participate in Sustainable Biodiversity Management in the Buffer Communities of the Rio Blanco National Park
The goal of the project is to contribute to the sustainable management of biodiversity and sustainable community development in and around the Rio Blanco National Park and the upper regions of the Moho River Watershed. The objectives of the project are: Objective 1: To improve the governance and leadership of the Rio Blanco Women's Group. Objective 2: To diversify and strengthen income generating activities of the RBWG. Objective 3: To increase the knowledge of the communities of Santa Elena and Santa Cruz and the involvement of women in Natural Resource Management. Objective 4: To build awareness in other communities in the Upper Moho river Watershed on the role of women in Natural Resource Management and sustainable income generation activities. This project originated out of the desires of the RMWG, a community based organization, to have a greater share in the development of their communities and management of the Rio Blanco National Park. This therefore means that the original concept evolved from the communities of Santa Cruz and Santa Elena. Furthermore community leaders, teachers, farmers, and various groups were involved in the development of the proposal, thus the communities have been fully involved to this point.
