Promoting Bird Conservation Through Indigenous Choir Competitions in Katleng District
Promoting Bird Conservation Through Indigenous Choir Competitions in Katleng District
This project is aimed at community mobilisation and will disseminate information on bird conservation, to raise awareness on environmental degradation that may pose as threats to birds and biodiversity and promote bird tourism to improve local livelihoods, . It will project bird conservation as the best way of saving and looking after birds properly. The messages of the project will be disseminated through indigenous choir festival. Participating groups will be expected to attend a one day workshop in which they will be sensitised on the importance of bird conservation. The one day workshop will therefore become a major source of information for the participating groups for their performance messages. For this project, participating dikopelo groups will develop message based performances on the importance of bird conservation. The performances will then be rehearsed for a period of 4 months. After the rehearsal period, the participating groups will compete amongst themselves to select groups that would have managed to create the best message, thereby becoming potential ambassadors of bird conservation. The winner will then be invited to perform at the annual craft market organised by Birdlife Botswana which attracts thousands of people. For the entire project; there will be ten dikopelo groups from Kgatleng villages.
