Improving rural trek roads for pedestrians and animal transport in Bura Protected Area
Improving rural trek roads for pedestrians and animal transport in Bura Protected Area
Al-Maghareb group of villages of Bani Suleiman, Bura district is located above Bura protected area. The villages are considered an important area for coffee plantation in the small terraces built against mountain sharp slopes. The topographical nature of the mountain made it difficult to build a road hence cars cannot reach villages. Local communities are using animals for transportation of good and crops to and from villages. The excising road is also very difficult for animal carrying goods to reach villages due to sharp slopes. This made animal to suffer during the course of carrying loads up and down the slopes. The only animal can climb with difficulties are donkey. This made it very expensive and limited supply.
Local communities are proposing to build an easy road with easy trek so that Camels and donkeys can easily climb when loaded with goods. A total of 3.6Km of mountain trek roads network will be built to serve several villages. All proposed roads are connecting the villages with the end of the paved road in Bura protected area. The road will enable animal to use the road up and down with ease and safe. Hence reducing the cost of transportation of community needs and bringing their coffee crop with lower cost. Tourists and trekkers will use the road leading to the rest of Bura region.
