In identifying and generating knowledge, the proposed project intends to capture gender aspects through analyzing gender roles, relation and processes at all stages in the SGP project cycle. Strategic input of both gender are necessary. The knowledge inquiry will find out among other gender aspects the following: In what way were the practical and strategic needs of women and men were taken into account? In what way have the projects’ activities and services benefitted women and men? How were the opinion, and concerns of men and women sought in all the project stages? What project opportunities have been provided by the projects and have women had access to these opportunities? It is in this regard that a prerequisite framework for gender analysis in determining the Knowledge will be put in this proposed project.

It has been noted elsewhere in this project proposal document that what knowledge management share as knowledge are the skills, experiences, lessons learned, best practices, methodologies, case studies, actionable recommendations, reflections , memoirs and technical advise. These knowledge dimensions are derived either explicitly from processes, documents and publications or tacitly from people’s memories. In both cases the sources of that knowledge information are the people, those directly or indirectly involved in the implementation of project initiatives or the target beneficiaries. Their strategic input in this regard will be paramount to the success of this proposed initiative. The UNDP/GEF-SGP supported projects have been meant to demonstrate their value in improving quality of life of the communities and promoting sustainable use of natural resources by the respective communities. In this regard to generate the knowledge as proposed in this project it will be critical to ensure the participation of various categories of community in this initiative. The community stakeholders will include the beneficiary target audiences, personnel of implementing civil society groups, development partners and practitioners, and partners in government and the private sector. The proposed plan is to ensure that the selected target groups from the various projects, thematic areas and geographical regions will be thoroughly sensitized about the knowledge management initiative using a variety of participatory community engagement tools including briefings and brainstorming, contextual inquiry, focused group discussion these and one-on-one interviews, among others. Using these participatory and reciprocity approaches the knowledge needs will be easily identified, the major knowledge issues will be uncovered, and knowledge insights and understanding will be gained.

This project should better enable the replication, expansion, and improvement of other GEF/SGP projects that focus on Sustainable Livelihoods.
