Demonstration of possibility of greenhouse gas emissions reduction by conducting campaign on use of non-motor transport
Demonstration of possibility of greenhouse gas emissions reduction by conducting campaign on use of non-motor transport
The project aims at promoting use of non-motorized transport in Lugansk region. The demonstration activities will take place in small town Stanychno-Lugansk (around 10000 people), which is characterized by high level pollutions not only from the local industries, but also from transport. Lugansk region is one of the most pressing on environment in Ukraine. The main sources of environmental pollutions in the region are chemical, coal, machine building, oil industries and transport. The remote areas are characterized by very low awareness, participatory and problem solving capacities by the local people themselves. The significant transport pollutions in Stanychno-Lugansk can be reduced through the proposed project implementation, which includes baseline situation analyses and planning the development of transport infrastructure with public participation, measuring the bicycle routs in Stanychno-Luganske, promoting use of bicycles by the local population, assessment and forecast of emissions reductions. It is very important that the Project introduces new approaches and contributes to awareness raising and public participation in environmental decision making. Number of events, seminars, campaigns are planned in the framework of the project. Local inhabitants, business and authority representatives will be involved in project implementation.
