The Akumugi area in Ogbia town faces great challenges during rainy season. Whenever there is heavy rainfall, water does not move to the creek quickly, due to poor drainage thereby causing flooding, hindering human movement for any productive educational and commercial activities and causing erosion of the community, especially farmland; loss of soil fertility of the farmlands and scarcity or high cost of food. This has sometimes led to migration and relocation of people to neighboring villages. Due to the community’s geographical location which is predominantly water logged (flood), a lot of environmental, ecological, hygiene and sanitation challenges face the community.
Project goal is aimed at the Restoration of soil fertility and degraded land through reduction of flooding by half in Akumugi community
Project activities involves; Preliminary meetings, survey and preparations, construction of drainage, monitoring of flow of flood through the drainage system, the reduction of flooding and its effects, planting of trees around affected construction site and Evaluation of rate of flooding and water retention in the community. Children, women, men and youths of the community are directly involved.
