Promoting Rural Participation in Environmental Protection through Rural Empowerment.
Promoting Rural Participation in Environmental Protection through Rural Empowerment.
The project is designed to conserve biological diversity and its objectives includes; to reduce the extent of wood exploitation through the production of fuel efficient biogas stoves and capacity building, to create environmental awareness through environmental education and tree planting and to reduce environmental degradation.
Large scale wood harvest and sales to neighboring towns is the only source of livelihood, which if not curbed will lead to eventual loss of biodiversity of the Amurum Forest Reserve.

Planned activities to be carried out includes; construction of community piggery, a model biogas digester for training and production purposes, biogas produced from this digester will be collected, canned and sold, production of IEC materials in the local dialect, planting of trees, wood harvesting. The project will involve several interest groups within the community including women and youth groups as well as the council of elders (20 women, 15 elders and 25 youths).
