Alternative Energy Sources for households in Burma, Al Marad and Jarash

With the rise in fuel prices, the local community is looking for alternatives to help sustain their everyday life. The local community is now resorting to over logging from the forests that surround the area to do so. With the increase in population and the dramatic increase in prices, from electricity bills to water bills the local community must find an alternative without increasing environmental degradation.
For that reason, this project will target the conservation of forestry around the area, increase environmental awareness and find energy alternatives.

This project therefore aims at increasing environmental awareness by supporting solar water heaters to the local community as an energy alternative. This will allow the reduction of logging and in return help in conserving the local biodiversity of the area.

Project sustainability

A management committee is to be established to supervise all project activities. The committee will have 2 cooperative members, 1 technical specialist, and one Dibeen Forest Reserve community officer.

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

Project management process will be through revolving fund.

Notable Community Participation

The cooperative was established in 2006 in the town of Mansoura which is located in the district of Burma in the Jarash Governorate around the Dibeen Forest Reserve. With more than 300 members, the cooperative maintains gender equality making sure that women play a major role in the cooperatives activities. The cooperative’s main activities aim at: 1. Raising the standard of living of individuals and the local community through financing projects with revolving funds. 2. Helping to reduce poverty and unemployment 3. Contributing to the overall development of the town 4. Contributing in combating environmental degradation and increasing environmental awareness of the local community.

This project aims at increasing environmental awareness by supporting solar water heaters to the local community as an energy alternative.
