Environmental research land erosion New Aurora
Environmental research land erosion New Aurora
Riverbank erosion at villages in the Upper Suriname area is evident.
This Planning Grant will be used for research into the possibilities of replanting (both in the village to address soil run off as well as along the riverbank at the landing site) and developing a strategy or policy with the community to combat erosion.
Activities: research, community consultations
Research will also consider the original vegetation, the effect of social factors on the deforestation(cultural and behavioral aspects linked to the problem). The overall goal is to assess what options for replanting are available, to address the problem and select the most suitable plant options in close collaboration with the local community.
