Community action towards combating climate change in south west Mt. Kenya
Community action towards combating climate change in south west Mt. Kenya
The community in South Western Mt Kenya has for long suffered from a lack of fuel wood since restrictions were put on wood harvesting in Mt Kenya and other localized forest groves. The community, through the local NGO- Mukurweini Development Initiative, have proposed to upscale use of biogas as a source of clean energy for households in the area. They will also pursue the carbon credit market with the hope of being able to trade the credits saved as a result of the project through a local credits trading company (CO2balance Ltd).
