The project aims to reducing land degradation through sustainable water conservation practices and environmental awareness that will help nurture environmental aspects within the local community in daily life activities. Moreover, help conserve energy by implementing solar water heaters for the local community.

Project Specific Objectives

- Reducing land degradation and conserving energy in the area, along with improving the livelihood and living conditions of the local community, by using a revolving fund that is given to help initiate water and energy conservation projects.

- Enhance the awareness of the local community about energy conservation and water harvesting practices.

- Enhance the status of the local community through upgrading their skills and income, which will later be connected to activities already functioning in the society.

- Increase the income generation for local rural families, and create new jobs opportunities.

Policy Influence
Al Iman cooperative helps the local community in supplying transportation between the camp and Jarash city, facilitate all commercial needs at low prices, help in decreasing unemployment in the area and finally use the revolving fund approach with the local community to use for personal projects and expenses. It also concentrates on helping the local community by improving their livelihood, providing awareness and encouraging new projects which will develop their economical and social growth. The project aims at increasing the use of renewable energy within the local community in the Soof Refugee Camp, which will help conserve energy by implementing solar water heaters and later reduce electricity bill amounts. This project will also increase environmental awareness about natural resource management that will later nurture this aspect within the community. It essentially focuses on: - Conserving energy in the area, along with improving the livelihood and living conditions of the local community, by using a revolving fund that is given to help initiate energy conservation projects. - Enhance the awareness of the local community about energy conservation practices. - Increase the income of local rural families, and create new jobs opportunities.
Notable Community Participation
The Gafgafa Social Development Society is situated in the Gafgafa Area in the Jarash governorate that occupies 7 thousand people. The charity society was established in 1979 with 92 members to date of which 38 are women. The majority of the occupants in the Jarash governorate work in agriculture and farming. The society concentrates on educating children of ages less than 6, and in establishing income generating projects that will decrease poverty in the area. Increasing environmental and social awareness within the local community is an essential goal to the society, where opportunities are increased through income generating projects.
