Sustainable Rangeland Management: Shami Goat Raising in Captivity
The aim of this project is to motivate animal raising in captivity, in particular the (Shami goats). Goat raising in captivity will help decrease desertification in the area, and aid in conserving the biodiversity in Lob. Awareness workshops and training will help nurture environmental aspects within the local community in daily life activities.

Project Objectives:

1.Decreasing over grazing activities, which will aid in decreasing desertification and conserving the biodiversity in Lob

2. Nurturing environmental aspects with the local community

3. Decreasing the poverty and unemployment ratio

4. Introducing the Shami goat in the area, for its better quality (producing up to 50% more milk than the local goat)

Notable Community Participation
One of the new established CBO’s Al Nasir Cooperative was registered in 2006 and is located in the Lob area of the Madaba governorate. The cooperative has 77 members to date which reflect 44 males and 33 females. The NGO thrives to help the local community in decreasing poverty and creating income generating activities that will later in turn benefit their economic and living conditions. Al Nasir cooperative not only aims at decreasing poverty levels, but also presents different services of training and consultation to help increase the awareness and the needed skills for development and sustainability for the local community. One of the highest aims is to increase employment in the area, and help provide the needed services for the local community.
Project sustainability
The Society will insure its sustainability by using the revolving fund approach to manage the income generating activities, thereby allowing project activities to continue beyond the funding period of the project.
