Integrated Environmental Management and Eco-tourism Development in Wadi Ben Hammad
The project aims at developing a model of integrated environmental management of the Wadi Ben Hamad, based on sustainable eco-tourism as a driving force for sustainable development in the area. The project is part of the overall initiative of the 5-year Integrated Ecosystem Management in Jordan Rift Valley GEF Project, implemented by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature.
The project will specifically develop effective management program for the Ben Hammad Special Conservation Area, build the institutional capacities of the Karak Cooperative as the main ecotourism operator in Ben Hammad, develop and sustain the ecotourism model in the area, enhance potentials for financial sustainability of the business model in Ben Hammad, and develop a program for outreach, awareness raising and education.

Greater Karak Municipality Employees Cooperative includes a large segment of Al Karak and Wadi Bin Hammad local community and therefore the overall benefits will return to the community.
The cooperative has a fixed policy for all employment opportunities and direct and indirect Benefits of the services and tourism activities. All these benefits target the local community. Benefits include permanent and temporary employment for tourism services and capacity-building programs.
Capacity - Building Component
The institutional and technical capacities of GKMEC built as the sole ecotourism operator in the region will be developed.
