Herbal Plants in Al Khaldiyeh/ Mafraq
In Al Khaldiyeh Area- Mafraq governorate, the Soldier’s Family Welfare Society will implement the “Herbal Plants Project”, which aims to promote sustainable land management practices by replicating and up-scaling a successful experience in this field, which the Society has been implementing successfully in a Al Ghuwairiyeh area with SGP support. The project will be implemented on a piece of land provided by the National Center for Agricultural Research and Technical Transfer (NCARTT), which has been providing technical support for Al Ghuwairiyeh project. The project will train women of Al Khaldiyeh area on herbal plant production as a means to improve the environmental and socio-economic situation of the local community of the project area.

Project Characteristics and Results
The project aims at promoting sustainable land management practices by replicating and up-scaling a successful experience in this field, implemented by the same NGO in a different area, through training women of Al Khaldiyeh area on herbal plant production as a means to improve the environmental and socio-economic situation of the local community of the project area. Its main objectives are designed to influence: - The introduction of sustainable land management practices in an arid area where plant cover has deteriorated over the past years. - The enhancement of the status of women in the community through upgrading their skills and creating job opportunities in the project area, through connecting its activities to those of the food processing project already functioning in the Society. - The creation a model for sustainable land management in an arid ecosystem that can be replicated in other parts of Mafraq. and the improvement the environmental and socio-economic situation of the local community in the project area.
The project will try to ensure sustainability by: - using the NGO and its food processing unit in Al Ghuwairiyeh, its marketing of the products will also be insured through the NGO’s regular marketing channels, which will support the sustainability of project's activities. - the NCARTT’s support will continue as the project will provide a site for their research and will consist of a model that they can use during their regular activities.
