Improved Women Participation in Developing and Sustaining Local Resources
In the village of Manshiyet Abu Hammour village of Karak governorate, south Jordan, the women cooperative will implement this project, through which the cooperative will support community interventions that would contribute to controlling land degradation in the fragile arid ecosystem of the project area, and improving the living conditions of the community. These interventions will include water harvesting and drip irrigation, household food processing, sheep-raising in closed barns, land reclamation measures, protected agriculture, home gardens and other interventions that use natural resources in a sustainable manner.

CBO is managed by women and they give priority to women in supporting activities under the project, which will improve women chances of accessing credit, that are otherwise not available to them. this will improve their situation in the community as it will help them become productive and economically independent.
The project aims to contribute to controlling land degradation in the fragile arid ecosystem of the project area, by supporting local community interventions in the field of sustainable land management that would at the same time contribute to improving their livelihoods. The project will focus on doing the following: - Build the capacities of rural and Beduin women in the Cooperative’s areas of operation to enhance their role in their community and household development, through supporting them to implement sustainable environmental projects that are at the same time income generating. - Enhance the environmental and socio-economic situation in the project area through sound management of natural resources. - Raise community awareness, with special focus on the women sector, in the field of preserving environmental balance and resources such as soil and water. - Diversify sources of income of the local community through supporting income-generating activities that include the following: protected agriculture, home gardens, and water-harvesting projects, which contribute to reducing poverty and unemployment and improve the living conditions of the community.
