Participatory Integrated Wetland Management
The Satyawati lake, situated in the middle of forests of Khude Lake is totally rain-fed lake with unique biodiversity. Mr Pit Bahadur Nepali, on his Ph D research mentioned lake is the home for typical species of amphibians particularly frogs, snakes, rarely found in other natural hilly lakes of Nepal. It also harbors many migratory birds. The lake has cultural and religious values. The legend says that on the full moon night of Kartik, an old goddess (Satyawati Bajyai) with poor hearing will fulfill the wishes of the pilgrims who circle the lake three times and shout their hopes out to her. (communication with local people). There exist a small temple of Staywati at the side of the Lake where a festival for one night is held each year in the full moon night (as per lunar calendar) of Kartik (Oct/Nov). Thousands of pilgrims from Butwal Tanseen and other villages come to pray visit the lake and temple.
However, the lake ecosystem in recent years is seriously jeopardized threatening its integrity. The construction of road at the side of lake in a haphazard way ignoring the values of the lake and poor management of forests draining the lake, soil erosion has been increased and silt load to the lake has been increased drastically. Therefore, there is an urgent need to conserve the unique features of the landscape surrounding the lake in an integrated and participatory and planned way
